How Does a Person Become a Christian?
Christians believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins and was raised to new life. One becomes a member of the Christian community through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. If you have not been baptized, one of the pastors would be happy to meet with you personally to guide you in preparation to be baptized. Lutheran Christians do not re-baptize people coming from other Christian faith traditions.

What is a Lutheran Christian?
Lutherans believe that because of our Baptism in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit we are Christians and God meets us where we are in life. God even meets us in our pain, weakness, doubt - offering us love, acceptance and forgiveness through Jesus Christ, God's Son. Lutherans teach that through the hearing of God's Word, the Holy Spirit points us to Jesus Christ as our only hope and promise for salvation - salvation because of his suffering and death on the cross, and not because of anything we can possibly do. Lutherans believe that all baptized Christians are justified by grace through faith; that because of Jesus Christ, we are all accepted as Children of God - a gift of God that we do not deserve - a gift in which we put our trust.

How are Christians called to live?
Christians are called to follow Jesus in his death and resurrection - a death and resurrection that happens in Baptism. Baptism does not make us sinless, we still continue to sin and disobey God, but we come to God to confess our sins and ask forgiveness. The Christian life is not a perfect life - it is a life in which we must daily be reminded of our need for God's love, acceptance and forgiveness that is found only in Jesus Christ. In response to this, we are called to submit to the will of God, to trust God in all things, to love and serve others with this same acceptance.

What is Holy Communion?
Holy Communion, also known as Eucharist or the Lord's Supper, is a special meal for all baptized Christians through which we receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ through bread and wine. This reminds us that we receive God's love and forgiveness through Jesus' suffering and death on the cross and that we are part of the community of all Christians as the body of Christ.
